The group BrassBand.cz was formed on 1st May 1990 when they performed as
a modern May Day Dixieland group in a parade reminiscent of the May Day
celebrations.
The group concentrates on orthodox Dixieland, or New Orleans jazz, as played
during the twenties and thirties in the home of jazz - New Orleans.
This is also reflected in the instrumental make-up of the band: trumpet,
trombone, clarinet, banjo, tuba, drums. In the tradition of the old masters, the
band performs the most famous songs of the era acoustically, including singing
into a megaphone. However, this does not mean that they avoid electric
amplifiers altogether. Although BrassBand.cz mostly performs as a street band,
they also play in clubs, fairs, weddings, garden parties and at other private
and corporate functions.
The most characteristic feature of BrassBand.cz is the exciting and
lively nature of their interpretations, humorous texts both of their own
production as well as borrowed, various costumes
(from sailor’s uniform to evening-dress) and, above all, the unflagging good
mood.
So
far the group BrassBand.cz has released five CDs and played hundreds of
performances both home and abroad. Taking part in the biggest European Dixieland
festivals can be considered the prime of the band’s career. In 2007 BrassBand.cz
excelled during the 37th International Dixieland Festival in Dresden
,
where they entertained thousands of fans during the three days and made it onto
the front pages of three German newspapers. The following year the band was even
invited to the 15th Worldwide Festival in the Spanish city of
Tarragona .
